Second Grade News: November 18, 2024

Our Thanksgiving/Winn-Dixie Party was a lot of fun.  I hope the children enjoyed the activities.  I know I sure enjoyed watching them laugh and smile.  It was fun to see their reactions when making egg salad sandwiches, and then trying them for the first time. (Well, most of them anyways!) 🙂

In the students’ Friday Folders came home the report cards for Trimester 1. Please return the envelopes signed by Monday. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask at our conference. I will be happy to explain any questions or concerns you may have.

Curriculum:

We are continuing our work in Unit 3 of Math. We have been adding numbers using different strategies within sums of 100.  In Science, we will be learning about the Turkey and what that “red” thing is on its neck and beak.  In Writer’s Workshop, we have been working on writing scary stories incorporating sound words and many descriptive adjectives. It will be fun hearing their stories when they are finished.  In Social Studies, we are almost done with our Democracy Unit.  The kiddos will come back from break and present some facts they learned about Presidents we’ve been studying in class.  Also, the same week our elections were, they received their very own Voter Registration Card so they could vote for a character in a book who is running for the Class President position.  It is a very fun process with lots of learning involved.

Homework:

When we return, please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes nightly.  Establishing a routine helps them for what’s to come in their later school years.  Begin now to create this habit of homework nightly.  It will benefit them later!

Some reminders:

Monday, November 18th is the last day to get all of the Thanksgiving Basket Items in to the classroom. Again, thank you for your generosity! Next, beginning Tuesday, we will have half days with dismissal at 12:30. (Monday is a full day schedule.). Tuesday through Thursday are reserved for Parent-Teacher conferences. If you haven’t signed up, please do so as soon as possible. Wednesday is our Drumstick Dash. If you are able to volunteer, I know Coach Do is still looking for help. Please contact him: ddo@stellamarisacademy.org Lastly, Friday there will be no Cub Care to allow the staff to leave and begin our Thanksgiving Break as well. Please pick children up at 12:30.

Thank you again, and have a wonderful break and a Blessed Thanksgiving!  I can’t wait to hear all the stories that the week will hold for the children.  May God Bless all of you!

Blessings and much gratitude,

Mrs. Campagna
